Gina’s home: Ensuite room reveal

Today I’m really excited because it’s ensuite room reveal day! During our build, I called on your help to plan the layout and select finishes for our ensuite and you’ll see many of those ideas were used and some things were changed.

Ensuite design evolution

The biggest changes were around tiling choices and layout. Originally I was planning a marble feature wall of either hexagon or penny round tiles but as it got closer to locking in the tile selection, I felt there was a bit of an overuse of these tiles and wanted something different. Instead, we opted for these handmade subway tiles from Spain. They have a beautiful organic texture and their simplicity works well with the grey petal encaustic floor tiles. The floor tiles are made of cement and feel so soft underfoot (and underfloor heating means I won’t dread this next winter as much!).

And with the layout, I had to give up on the idea of the bath in our ensuite (there simply wasn’t enough space). So we opted for a longer vanity with double basins instead. Neale Whitaker says “luxury shouldn’t feel cramped” and that’s how our ensuite would have felt if we forced a bath in the space.

I’m really happy with the decisions we made. Mostly, adding face level storage behind the mirrors and deep pull out drawers in the vanity. This extra bathroom storage helps me keep the place nice and tidy. The double shower is also pretty dreamy 🙂

I hope you enjoy our ensuite! If you have any questions about the space, drop a comment below and I’ll get back to you asap.

    1. Your ensuite looks beautiful! Did you use gloss or matte white basins? I am doing a bathroom renovation at the moment and have decided on matte black taps and accessories but don’t know if I should have glossy or matte white basins, help please!

      • Oh thanks Johanne, so lovely of you. Your house looks like it’s nearly finished – love the grey wall paint you selected. Must be getting close now!!

    2. Wow, wow, wow! Gina it has come together just beautifully. Love the black tapware/accessories and that the black is repeated by the windows. The black door handle hasn’t gone unnoticed either – gorgeous! The tiles are divine. What a beautiful luxe and harmonious space. You must be thrilled.
Now I’m (im)patiently waiting for the next room reveal :-).

    3. Lovely! Good decision re the bath, the proportions look spot on. I especially love the wall tile (I’m hoping to use a similar one in our downstairs shower). You’ve pulled it together beautifully, you must be thrilled to finally get to use it! 🙂

      • Thanks Jane, I was so gutted when the bath wouldn’t fit but in hindsight I think it worked out for the best. It’s a nice luxury to have my own basin and the extra storage. I couldn’t be happier to be in the house… I just wish I won the lotto so I could furnish it overnight but I’ll get there 😉

        • I hear you, I don’t think I’ll be getting everything furnished and styled straight away either! I guess the upside is we have lots of the fun stuff ahead 🙂

      • Thanks Naomi! That was another decision I ummmed and ahhhed about for ages but I’m really happy with how the black tapware and fittings turned out 🙂
