We weren’t sure if we should run a challenge in January. We had this topic of tackling a reno or DIY project ready to go for 1 January but then came the worst day of our bushfires and it didn’t feel right to post. Since then, we’ve pledged to donate 100% of our ad revenue in January towards bushfire relief and recognise despite all the devastation and tragedy, we also need glimpses of light and distraction. So we hope you’ll join us in our January #stylecuratorchallenge to tackle a home reno or DIY project.
Let our first #stylecuratorchallege for 2020 be the motivation you need to tackle a home improvement or DIY project. Or if you like, you could also create an item to help our wildlife affected by the bushfires and we have plenty of ideas here.
Whether you’ve been meaning to install your own panel wall in the bedroom, create a veggie garden bed outside, or make your own DIY bedhead, let our January #stylecuratorchallenge be the excuse you need to get that DIY project started!
Of course, there’s a fab prize as a sweetener to join in and this month you could win a stylish pair of work boots from Oliver Footwear — essential when tackling a project around the home.
How to join in
1. Share a photo of your project — whether it’s a home improvement or DIY project. Be sure to include in the photo caption the #stylecuratorchallenge hashtag, our handle @stylecuratorau and our wonderful prize sponsor @oliverfootwear. It’s also a good idea to tag us on the pic too, so we’ll definitely get to see it.
We will be checking Facebook, Instagram and Twitter but can only see photos shared on public accounts. If your account is private, you can still join the challenge by sending us your photo via email or DM.
3. Spread the love. Follow the #stylecuratorchallenge hashtag to check out the photos other people have uploaded of their reno/DIY projects. Like, comment and encourage others to join in — who doesn’t love a bit of love?!
Did you know most #stylecuratorchallenge winners have generally uploaded multiple images throughout the month? It makes sense, the more times you enter, the better your chances so feel free to share photos of different parts of your project or photograph them from different angles!
*Terms: images must be uploaded to social media between 1 – 31 January 2020, including the #stylecuratorchallenge hashtag and tagging both Style Curator (@stylecuratorau) and Oliver Footwear (@oliverfootwear). Only Australian residents are eligible to win the prize but everyone is welcome to join in the challenge. We will select the winner by 9 February and announce it on the blog.
Did you totally just scroll to this part of the blog to find out more about this awesome prize? Cause that’s what we would have done! The fab team at Oliver Footwear have supplied SUCH a great prize to kick off (pun totally intended) our 2020 #stylecuratorchallenge in serious style. This month’s winner will take home a pair of stylish Women’s Wheat Zip Sided Boots (valued at over $140).
These guys have been in the game for a long time, being founded in 1887! They promise to provide the most comfortable, best performing and most durable footwear.
Any DIY project should be safety (and stylish) first… something we learnt the hard way starting some of our first DIY projects wearing just thongs (flip flops or jandals for our overseas friends!). We know… NOT the smartest footwear choice! Some of you might even remember Gina even got kicked off her home build construction site for not wearing the correct footwear!
We have officially learnt our lesson so that’s why we’re super excited to partner up with Oliver Footwear for this terrific prize. Seriously stylish and safe — love it!
New to #stylecuratorchallenge?

Our challenges aren’t about being the best — it’s about making small improvements around our home each month (so we really can achieve the stylish homes we dream about), giving it a go and having fun! It’s also a way to meet other interior-loving enthusiasts and connect with them online. Plus it’s a great excuse to get that DIY project started, that little bit further along, or maybe even completed!
So what are you waiting for?! Don’t miss your chance to win this amazing pair of footwear!
