Interior inspiration from our favourite cafe Double Shot

Interiors inspiration is all around us! We often find ourselves examining spaces — checking out light fixtures or even feeling the texture of walls (weird, right?!) — but it’s all for our love of interiors and design. It fascinates us to discover new materials or ways of using them, and a place that fills us with inspiration is our local cafe in Canberra’s Inner South — Double Shot.

Fitted out by the talented folk at Turco and Associates, you’ll see there’s a lot to love. Scroll on for our top 7 interior design ideas to steal!

Double Shot

1. Killer feature wall

Cafe manager, Nathan, says the number one thing people talk about when they visit the cafe is this stunning feature wall (which is quite the compliment given their menu is so darn tasty!).

He jokes with us about how hard they worked to hand saw each branch, only to fill in one small corner of the wall. We’re imagining a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into it — but aren’t the results worth it?

We’ve seen timber panel walls used heavily in interiors but never a rough cut branch wall!

2. Neon lights

Neon lights are popping up in home magazines and product shoots — a new trend perhaps? And of all the neon lights out there, ‘I wake up wanting to kiss you x’ has got to be the cutest! Makes us smile every time.

3. Indoor/outdoor transition

An area where people often fall down is getting the transition from indoors to outdoors right — they treat the spaces as completely separate and it creates the feeling of disjointedness.

We’re not saying you need to replicate your interior style outdoors but there needs to be some references between the two. In places that get this right, without even realising it, you will enjoy both spaces more.

At Double Shot, the hanging planters, copper pendant lights and rope ceiling are carried throughout — and doesn’t it draw your eye beyond the brick wall?

4. Mural

We recently introduced you to Daisylegs, Melbourne artists of large scale murals. Mural and street art is so hot right now and not just for commercial spaces. Imagine stepping out in your garden to see an entire wall of art? Yes please!

5. Clever partition walls

This partition wall made of black mesh screen and rope is both functional and a design feature. Makes for a refreshing change from standard plasterboard walls! We’re a big fan of this material combo — an industrial yet warm look.

6. Playful outdoor area

In our opinion, outdoor entertaining should be fun and relaxed. This playful outdoor area with sunshine yellow and white umbrellas, and mismatched seating, looks like the perfect spot for a weekend BBQ. (Did you also spot the rope around the large concrete planters? Another way of referencing the interiors.)

7. Planter boxes

Windows lined with planter boxes of succulents and cacti is a sure way to our hearts! We’re also a big fan of the irregular, wall hung planter boxes filled with lush herbs (Gina is totally stealing this for her new house 😉 ).

But of course, the quickest and easiest way to our hearts is COFFEE!! Just a little bit addicted, it doesn’t get any better than Double Shot and just check out these cute cups!
