How to achieve the look…

To bring the Scandi style into your home office, think about using clean-line timber furniture, soft hues and some key pieces for texture.

Take a look at our simple checklist as we show you some of our favourite Scandi offices and share tips to achieve the look at your place.

1. Start simple

A common theme when looking at Scandinavian offices is they all start with a simple base. Think modest floorings, cosy rugs, clean-line timber furniture and a soft colour palette.

A great way to achieve this is by using neutral materials and adding pops of colour and interest with your decor. Timber and white are great options to keep with the Scandi theme.

2. Keep it clean

Scandinavian interiors are clean, bright and spacious. White walls or cool greys make a great foundation for Scandinavian styling.

But don’t think you can’t use colour! We’ve spotted some Scandi-inspired interiors with dark feature walls like the one below, and we love it. Note they’ve still kept things simple, with clean line furniture and minimal clutter.

3. Hide it away

Where possible, add cupboards, draws or other storage options to your office. It will keep clutter hidden away and help streamline the space.

Built-ins are a fabulous option, but if space (or budget) is an issue, a few baskets, a simple shelving unit or set of draws will work just as well.

4. Add timber

Light timber features just scream Scandi, don’t they?! We love using timber, be it for a desk, the legs on your office chair or in decor pieces like art frames.

Timber will instantly soften your space and give it that touch of Scandinavia you’re after.

5. Embrace plants

Add life to your office and soften the space with plants. Any kind of plant is a good idea, but to truly fit the Scandi style, we suggest those with glossy green leaves like the Pilea plant (pictured below). Tropical plants could look a little out of place 😉

6. Hang wall art

When using wall art in a Scandi-inspired office, keep it simple. Think black and white photography, simple lettering or how about an oversized wall calendar? We love this idea because it keeps it simple, yet still functional and practical.

7. Get your shelfie on

Shelves are a great way to get clutter off your desk and something we think is essential in any home office. Match your shelves to your desk colour or style to create that cohesive look the Scandinavians are so famous for.

8. Accessorise (but take it easy)

We love to accessorise but when it comes to the Scandi style, remember to keep it simple.

Think sheepskins, cushions, a cosy rug or an indoor plant. Marble or matte black accessories fit this style to a T. Keep it minimal and choose functional pieces that will enhance the subtle hues in your furnishings.
