A beautiful block with a not so beautiful house on it, this land was destined for a home to match its stunning surrounds.

“When the owners Mark and Kristy bought this property, it was always their intention to do a knock down rebuild. Let’s just say it was the perfect block with a not so perfect house on it,” she laughs.

“Mark and Kristy have 4 children, all under the age of 11 so they needed a home that could accommodate their large family, and something that would grow with them.

“This stunning location is situated in Brookfield, just 15 minutes drive from Brisbane’s CBD. For anyone who’s ever been to Brookfield, they will know it has a certain charm about it. A real country town feel but in a location that’s still so close to the city.”

And after…

What Rachael created was a stunning, modern coastal farmhouse, still with that old world charm.

“The house consists of 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 studies, a kitchen, butlers pantry, laundry / mudroom and the open plan living and dining space. There’s also a family rumpus room, outdoor alfresco bbq area, the pool and that incredible pool house,” Rachael explains.

“The home is ultimately 1 storey but split over 3 levels. From the street, the scale of the home is a little deceiving, but once you enter, the wonderful flow and clever use of space becomes very apparent.

“The 2 boys have their own upper level wing with their own bedrooms, a family study area and bathroom. The bedrooms on the lower level are off their own wing with the 2 girls being nice and close to their parents.

“The girls share a beautiful Jack and Jill style bathroom in soft pinks and timeless muted tones.

“The all-important parents retreat is pretty special! It overlooks the lush green gardens and out onto the pool area. It has a walk-in robe and a beautiful ensuite with garden view.

“There’s also a practical yet stylish parents office area with feature oak and glass barn doors.

“The open plan kitchen, living and dining area truly is the heart of the home. It overlooks the expansive alfresco area, massive swimming pool and pool house. It’s ideal for Brisbane’s year-round tropical climate.”

With accents of brass and baby blue, this home has a classic coastal farmhouse feel.

“Our brief was to create a timeless coastal farmhouse. They wanted one that would stand the test of time,” says Rachael.

“Knowing they were going to knock down the original home, Mark and Kristy were able to give us a full family wish list, as this is going to be their forever home.

I must say, they really do have the best of both worlds. Rural country living, in a modern suburban setting.

“It’s a classic yet modern home. The palette overall is one of warmth, yet it is very calm and fresh at the same time.

“We incorporated many beautiful finishes and surfaces throughout the home. From the brass in our handles and tapware to crisp white VJ walls, to soft coastal blues.

“It was important for the finishes to feel earthy and natural to create a rustic, country element. Kristy had her heart set on the Arbon limestone French lay pavers from Eco Outdoors.

“These teamed really beautifully with the white polished concrete floors, as they picked up on warm hues within the concrete to create a harmonious flow between the living spaces.

“This, mixed with the various wood tones throughout creates a lovely warmth that you very much feel when you enter the home.”

There are so many beautiful features throughout this home, none more so than the dreamy butlers pantry.

“The butlers pantry is pretty special, don’t you think?!” asks Rachael with a smile.

“It very much incorporates a café-type feel with the built in shelves for all that storage. Beautifully displayed items can be showcased in stylish glass jars and baskets, and for the untidy items, they can be neatly stored behind the oak wooden doors.

“Kristy found the character-filled antique ladder herself which really makes the space all the more special. The mix of limestone, soft painted cabinetry and lightly veined stone were the perfect combination.

“And then you’ve got that stunning sink, overlooking the alfresco and pool area. It’s almost enough to make you want to do the dishes!”

Rachael is the Queen of making budget buys look a million bucks. Point and case, that stunning cabana / pool house that started life as a plain old gazebo.

“The pool house turned out pretty amazing!” Rachael admits proudly.

“Originally a regular ‘off the shelf’ gazebo from Bunnings, we dressed it up completely by enclosing three sides with weatherboard cladding to tie in with the main house.

“We gave it a fresh lick of white paint and created expansive bench seating on all 3 sides, which makes it great for entertaining. The bench seats also double as extra storage which is super handy for pool toys and spare cushions when not in use.”
