Honouring the past, designing for now: Inside Tudorlea

In today’s home tour, we take you through Tudorlea. A richly layered restoration where heritage craftsmanship, atmospheric interiors and a sculptural kitchen anchor modern family living.

Tudorlea is a distinguished English Tudor residence reimagined by Studio Esar. Director and Principal Designer, Silvia Roldan shows us around and explains how the home was meticulously revived to celebrate its heritage bones.

This magnificent home was built in 1935 before its refresh and revival by Silvia and her team.

“The original home has been meticulously revived and has evolved into a holistic redesign that balances preservation with progression,” Silvia explains.

“Think Tuscan-rendered walls, arched openings, European oak herringbone flooring and the original fireplace.

“The green room, for example, stands as a defining expression of this philosophy. Drenched in deep green, it amplifies the home’s period character while leaning into more dramatic, immersive aesthetic.

“Ornate cornices, skirting and intricate ceiling rose are paired with a custom marble fireplace, while a floating pendant introduces a contemporary counterpoint.

“At its core, this home is an exploration of how past and present can coexist. The design draws subtle references to art deco elegance, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens that feels both refined and expressive.”

From richly layered living spaces to quietly expressive private zones, Tudorlea unfolds as a series of considered moments.

“The heart of the home is of course the kitchen,” Silvia smiles. “It anchors the new addition with both presence and purpose. It was designed as somewhat of a sculptural centrepiece that balances everyday functionality with striking visual detail.

“It’s a kitchen that feels both grounded and expressive. A space that connects effortlessly to the surrounding dining and living areas, while holding its own as a defining design feature.

“Throughout the home, you’ll find custom joinery, pressed metal brass grilles and richly textured finishes. These help reinterpret Tudorlea’s past while accommodating modern family life.

“This home has everything from serene private retreats to playful children’s bathrooms. Every detail is deliberate.”

The bathrooms in this home are quite something. Each has its own unique identity.

“Each of the bathrooms are really special in their own right,” says Silvia. “The master ensuite for example, was designed with a quieter ambience in mind. White Elba marble and white kit kat tiles create a layered, tonal composition, classic and with a sense of restraint.

“In the girls bathroom, London Pink marble introduces a gentle softness… a quiet touch of femininity. It set the tone to beautifully compliment the pink gloss subways.

“Then in contrast, the boys bathroom adopts a more grounded, masuline language. Tundra Grey marble anchors the space, paired with blue-grey kit kat tiles that add depth without overpowering the space.

“Downstairs, the palette shifts again, this time introducing green tiles which brings a freshness that still sits in harmony with the stone.

Tudorlea is an absolute masterclass in marrying function with layered materiality.

“While the home is rich in detail, its success lies equally in its functionality,” Silvia explains. “Each space has been carefully planned to support the rhythms of daily life, ensuring beauty never comes at the expense of practicality.

“Function needs to be intuitive. You need to understand circulation zones, storage requirements and how the space will be used before layering in materials.

“Natural stone is a constant throughout the home, valued for its depth, variation and inherent sense of luxury. Then there are the tactile contrasts. Fluted glass, brushed metals and textured tiles, all layered to create visual interest while maintaining a sense of cohesion.

“I can’t go past my love for the green room and the girls pink bathroom! Perhaps it’s the bold embrace of colour drenching that makes these spaces so special. I really love the depth of the green room. It amplifies the period style and dramatic character of the room.”

This is just one of many homes we’ve toured from Studio Esar and like all the others, it’s truly something special. You can see more of their projects on their website, or for more behind the scenes insight, give them a follow on Instagram.
