Interior Designer, Bella, at ACT Renovations explains the project brief.
“This renovation was for a retired couple who previously worked with us on their ensuite. After loving the results, they returned for a kitchen and bathroom renovation,” she says.
“The design brief was to create a modern, playful, yet functional bathroom with a focus on comfort and practicality while keeping it welcoming for both their grandkids and guests.
“The clients wanted to maintain the existing layout, meaning we had to design within the original constraints of the space and keep the existing plumbing positions, working creatively around these limitations.”
The hero of the bathroom is that dreamy materials palette. Peachy-pink terrazzo floor tiles, brushed bronze tapware and organic peach basin is a winning combo!
“The couple had previously renovated their ensuite, so they felt confident exploring something different. They kept the same vanity and tapware range but in a different finish — it offers the right balance of contrast and consistency in their home.
“Inspired by their love of pink and peach, they incorporated these tones and fell in love with the terrazzo tiles, which added a playful yet elegant touch.”
Our personal favourite feature of the bathroom is that fluted bath… and Bella says it’s hers too!
“There are many aspects we’re happy with in this bathroom,” she says proudly. “But we particularly love the fluted bath and floor-standing bath spout.”
“And the bath ledge ties in more hints of the terrazzo while offering the perfect spot for bathroom decor. These design features create a striking yet refined focal point in the room.”
Of course, no renovation project is without some challenges along the way.
“The main challenge of the project was working with the terrazzo flooring. Being a natural product, it was difficult to cut. Its thickness also created issues with laying it on the existing floor, as we couldn’t control the original floor height in a renovation.
“We overcame this by carefully adjusting the subfloor and working closely with our tilers to ensure a smooth and even installation, without compromising the final look or functionality of the space.”
Always looking for ways to push the design envelope, Bella reflects on what she might do differently if she were to renovate the bathroom again.
“If we had the chance to renovate this space again, we would love to incorporate a fluted shower screen and some feature lighting to enhance the design,” says Bella.
“These elements would add even more texture and visual interest, further complementing the luxurious feel of the bathroom.”
