Located in Brisbane, Queensland this home is a masterpiece in architecture and design.
“Gréce is home to Georgio and Thessy Batsinilas. Georgio is the co-founder of FitazFK and Thessy is the co-founder of fashion labels SABO and ZACO. The family have 2 young children and are surrounded by their extended family who live in the neighbouring houses,” Zaheer tells us.
“Their home is on Brisbane’s southside on an elevated suburban street, boasting expansive views towards the city and surrounded by mountain ranges.
“It has 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3 living spaces. There is a 3 car garage, a swimming pool, and a wellness centre, featuring a cold plunge pool, sauna and gym.”

Gréce was inspired by mediterranean design and features neutral tones and glorious curves
“The ultimate brief was to create a warm, functional and beautiful home for the couple to enjoy with their family. They had a strong desire to reference elements of mediterranean design, and materials to celebrate their Greek heritage,” Zaheer explains.
“The house also needed to facilitate aspects of their busy professional passions. Thessy required parts of the house to be used for photoshoots. Georgio required a wellness centre to meet the needs of their active lifestyles.
“They also both needed a functional, work from home office space. For the feel of the home, their preference was for muted, fresh and warm tones to be used throughout the build.”

Gréce is a home with dramatic features that result in a lustworthy dream space.
“The starting point to the design of this home was to work with what we had. The site has a significant slope to it. But we used this to our advance, making the most of the magnificent city and mountain views. By working with the block, rather than against it, we were able to maximise the views, daylight and connection to the outdoors,” Zaheer says.
“The front of the house is somewhat modest and understated. It features monolithic forms in an off-white textural render. The elevated planters frame the entryway and vertical batten garage. The white Knotwood batten garage curves towards the doorway and introduces a contemporary edge to an otherwise traditional aesthetic.
“Moving inside the home, the interior spaces feature an understated palette of crisp white plaster, textured off-white render and exposed concrete.
“Against this understated base, the kitchen island becomes a striking focal point in the heart of the home. Made from stunning Patagonia marble, it makes a serious statement!
“The tapware and accessories are by ABI, in a brushed brass finish.
“In the centre of the home is a courtyard that allows light and air to fill the interior spaces. This space features timber trellis, creeping vines, rustic furnishings and textured cobblestone floors. The designers drew inspiration from the homeowners’ travels through Greece when creating each of these elements.
The rear of the house is far more dramatic. It unfolds down the slope, with the balconies and stairways forming a sequence of layered curves.
“The exterior of the home is rendered in an off-white / beige tone with further texture and movement introduced in the form of cobblestone and travertine crazy pave. This combines with the landscaping which pares together subtropical Queensland and mediterranean plants.
“The lower terrace features a set of sculptural, monolithic stairs which form the photoshoot area and event space for Thessy’s fashion labels.”

Every corner reveals texture and drama.
“My favourite part of the home has to be the entry sequence,” says Zaheer.
“The designers created the entry sequence as a transitional journey from the outside world to the grand view revealed at the rear of the home.
“An overhead planter frames the front door. Lush landscaping surrounds you as you walk through the entry tunnel and front door. Once you get inside, the entry hall is a moody space, textured and minimally lit.
The idea being that this narrower, darker space sets you up for the big reveal at the end.
“The corridor leads you around a corner to the first moment of relief — a view of the rustic courtyard. You walk toward the courtyard, turn a corner, and step into the main living space, where the home opens up completely and reveals incredible panoramic views of the city and mountains.
“It’s a pretty special space!”

Not complete with being an absolute stunner, there are also a few bonus features within Gréce.
“Well, it wouldn’t be a Greek home without a built-in Souvla (Greek charcoal grill) now would it,” Zaheer laughs.
“The gym features a cold plunge pool and sauna for contrast therapy of alternating hot and cold immersions.
“And something truly unique and I think, something pretty cool, is that the backyard of the home has no side fences. It joins with the family neighbours, creating a shared ‘family village’. It’s an environment where the kids are often out playing with their cousins and bouncing between homes.”
