Tonal terrazzo laundry: Modern laundry renovation with a retro twist

Drawn from the client’s personal love of 60’s and 70’s furniture and colours, the Blushing Bulli laundry pays homage to these decades with a modern twist. Today, we explore this stunning tonal terrazzo laundry with functionality at its core.

Let’s take a look around with Leah Rispoli, Founder and Creative Director of Hemma Interiors.

Drawing inspiration from the client’s love of retro, Leah knew exactly what was wanted for this laundry.

“For me, the design process always begins with listening to the clients. Then, we break their thoughts down and build ideas up again to create their new home,” she explains.

“The interior scheme for this project was inspired by the client’s personal style and interest in 1960’s and 1970’s furniture. We drew inspiration from the colours of this era but combined the style with modern finishes and fittings. My favourite feature has to be the floor and splashback tile, it’s a nod to traditional terrazzo but with a modern twist.

“This project was a renovation. The original home was a traditional style home with many small rooms. The laundry was relocated as part of the renovation.”

As the founder of Hemma Interiors, Leah has a lot of design experience under her belt. Lucky for us, she was happy to share some of her top laundry design tips.

“Use your space wisely. You want space to conceal your laundry baskets. A large sink for soaking. Try to have tall cupboards for storing ironing boards, mops and vacuums. You also can’t go wrong with a hanging rail for drying shirts, makes for less ironing!

“Splurge on a good benchtop that’s going to last. There are other areas you can save, like lighting which can be simple. Use quality finishes to ensure the space is as beautiful as it is functional.”
