Located in Narangba, Brisbane, this project was finally completed after nearly two years of planning.

“The brief was to create a calm, balanced space which was humble, yet beautiful. The space also had to be highly functional to serve the needs of a young family — a husband and wife with two beautiful teenage twin girls and their caboodle ‘Bear’.

“My team and I worked alongside the architect and the builder to create a special space for their client.

“Part of the challenge was to create an interior that integrated seamlessly with the architecture of the home while reflecting the character of the family that lived there.”

Overlooking the bush, this beautiful new home is laid out in a H-shape with a central internal courtyard and a facade featuring a unique hit-and-miss brick design.

“The large kitchen and living space is positioned in the middle of the home. The master and guest suites are situated either side.

“Through the large glass sliding doors is the main feature of the space — the beautiful view through to the swimming pool and the bush beyond.

The doors were engineered to not need a centre post, opening all the way out, bringing an abundance of natural light to the living areas.

“The dark fluted panelling and gunmetal tapware contrasts the finishes palette. Furniture and accessories selections add colour to the space while still keeping it fairly calm and reserved.

“Full-height joinery, tall sculptural lighting and floor to ceiling curtains are all designed to emphasise the heigh ceilings and volume.”

The living space is one of the most loved spaces in the house, a space where the whole family likes to gather.

“The asymmetrical living joinery design is balanced against the double pendant light cluster hanging from the 5m ceiling.

“As a result, tall, elegant wireframe pendant lights drape down from the ceiling filling up the space without blocking the view to the outside.

“Living room furniture, soft furnishings and accessories also go a long way to add subtle colour and texture to the space.

“The centrepiece of the living room is also beautiful, sculptural sofa which ties in with the curved kitchen island bench. The kitchen island bench finish also mirrors the timber joinery throughout the dual space.”

The kitchen needed to be both beautiful and functional, maintaining the high-end contemporary home feel but still working for a family who enjoys cooking.

“Timber kitchen joinery runs all the way to the ceiling adding an element of grandeur to the space.

“The curved, fluted island bench is designed to mimic the curves in the architecture. It also adds a softness to the otherwise square space.

“The linear pendant light over the island bench was custom designed by a boutique lighting designer and mirrors the joinery colouring.

“All appliances are integrated, providing a cleaner, more minimal finish.”

The bedrooms all feature their own ensuites with differing layouts and designs.

“The master bedroom was designed to have its own character, featuring a dark, moody colour palette with dark, spa-like fixtures and subtle LED highlights. Simultaneously large, floor to ceiling windows bring the outside in, providing a refuge for the eye.

“The master ensuite resembles a spa, featuring a beautiful travertine finger tile. We made these selections to evoke a feeling of relaxation and rejuvenation.

“Finally, we designed the kids twin bedrooms to be identical with a shared ensuite in between. Both rooms feature identical joinery design with a desk, display shelves and a built-in robe. Each room can be accessorised by each girl later to reflect their individual personality.

“The shared ensuite features a playful square tile along with black dressing room style makeup lights over the stone bench that the teenagers love.”
