It’s no secret how much we love a DIY project here at Style Curator HQ! Today we’re making DIY bath fizzies and it’s a super easy one to make — you can even involve your little helpers to give you a hand (thanks to Dan’s son Mr H. for showing us how it’s done!).
Bath fizzies are just like bath bombs, only smaller, so they’re perfect to pop in the kids bath for a bit of fun! We also love to use calming oils in ours to bring on those sleepy vibes. Check out this great article on our favourite essential oils to use and all their benefits.

Items you will need:
- 300g bi-carb soda (sodium bicarbonate)
- 130g citric acid
- 30g fractionated coconut oil
- 30 drops of essential oils (we love a combination of lavender, vetiver, orange or cedar wood)
- Small silicone moulds
This recipe originates from The Inspired Little Pot website.
Steps:
1. Into a mixing bowl, pass the bicarb soda through a sieve to ensure there are no lumps. Stir in the citric acid. Add the fractionated coconut oil and essential oils and mix to combine.
2. The mixture should just hold together when you squeeze it. If it’s still too crumbly, add another teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil and stir. Repeat if necessary, until the mixture holds together.
3. Place the mixture into your silicone moulds and press down firmly. Allow to set in a cool spot for 24 hours. Gently pop out your bath fizzies, place on a tray and dry for a further 24 hours. Store your DIY bath fizzies in a glass jar.
Tips…
Buying b-icarb soda and citric acid from the supermarket can be quite pricey so if possible, try to source it from a bulk food store. It’s usually much cheaper and you can take your own jars, meaning less plastic waste — win for your wallet AND the environment! Try an online shop if you don’t have a bulk food store close by.
Fractionated coconut oil does not go solid like regular coconut oil. It is available in the oil section of most supermarkets.
It’s important not to make the fizzies too big, otherwise they won’t hold together. Also, use a simple shape, nothing too tricky to pop out. Trust us, we’ve made this mistake a few too many times.
If your fizzies DO fall apart, don’t stress! Just pop the mixture as is into a jar and add a spoonful to the bath when you’re ready to use. It will still work just fine.
By using just a few different essential oils (we love lemon and eucalyptus) you can also use this recipe as an all-natural, no nasties toilet cleaner!
These also make a wonderful gift idea, just pop them in a cute jar, tie on some ribbon, add a label and you’re done!
