It’s time for another room reveal of my home and today I’m sharing our master bedroom!
This is my favourite space in our home. I love the moody grey colour palette, the raked ceiling, Antoinette Ferwerda artwork, and the large windows that open out to the tree tops.

Furnishing our bedroom
Our bedroom is a mix of high and low furniture and homewares, all tying into a subtle colour palette of blues, pinks and greys set by the ‘Coastal Hills’ artwork I received for my birthday. There are also timber and black accents in the room — pendant lights, door handles, window frames and new Kmart side tables.
I love the ‘Smith’ armchair from Barnaby Lane pictured above — the perfect spot to read a magazine or enjoy my morning coffee. On the armchair is the ice dye cushion I made and next to it, the concrete top side table.
Bedroom joinery
As you enter our bedroom, there is a full wall of built-in wardrobe ahead and also a walk-through wardrobe to the left (this is kind of like a passageway behind the bed wall and links up with our ensuite).
When we were in the planning stage of our home, I dreamed of having a walk-in wardrobe the size of a room but as it turns out, I don’t own that many shoes or hand bags and the wardrobe solutions we ended up with are more than enough (seems I much prefer to spend my money on homewares and furniture, ha ha).
I love how the walk-through wardrobe turned out, especially the open pocket above the drawers with marble top on which sits perfumes, family photos and other treasures.
Finishing touches to come
To finish our bedroom, I just need to organise window treatments (my original preference was waaaayyyyy out of budget so that’ll have to wait or I’ll need to find a more realistic solution) and perhaps a throw for the bed too.
More recently…
Just wanted to share a more recent pic of my bedroom. I finally got window treatments, filled the walls with more art, and treated myself to some new bedding too 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this tour of our bedroom. If you have any questions about where products are from or just want to leave a comment, I’d love you to post one below.

Just signed up as I really enjoy reading your blog, could I ask what bedhead style you ended up choosing please?
Thanks Theresa, that’s so lovely of you. My bed is the biggest bargain buy ever, a grey upholstered one from Tommy Swisse, the ‘Henrik’ collection I think. They have a huge selections of beds, all crazy cheap but well made and arrive in just a few days. You can see their range here http://www.tommyswiss.com/au/ 🙂
Congratulations on the arrival of baby Patrick! I hope he likes his sparkly new home 🙂
I just saw your baby news as I’ve subscribed to the comments. Congratulations! 🙂 I hope all is going well.
ps – You have inspired me to try Smoky Silhouette in our master bedroom xxx
Hi Ashlee
Oh thanks for the congrats, he’s such a little bundle of joy.
Yay, I’m glad I inspired you to try that Haymes colour… my tip is to paint the ceiling in the same colour also – sounds weird but that’s what the Haymes colour consultant recommended and it turned out a treat.
PS – did you end up getting those Mercer and Reed quilted Euro cushions? Funny how similar our tastes are 🙂
Hi Gina,
That’s interesting about the ceiling. I will have to give it a whirl – although, we have cornices so it might look a little strange. Love the colour though.
And yes, I ended up buying the Mercer + Reid cushions. They are divine. Even better in real life with the velvet front and linen back. 🙂
Hmmm I’ll need to ask Erin about cornices, good question! Great to see your house moving along so quickly (although I’m sure it won’t feel fast enough!) 🙂
Gina, I’m so happy to hear your beautiful baby news!! Welcome to baby Patrick. I hope you are all settling in well :-).
On a must less important note, I’m really happy with how my kitchen turned out. I’ll email you some pics one day if you are interested. And I love the sound of your Scandi style rug. That IKEA one would actually work really well in our Rumpus room too. But really, those little baby days fly by so so quickly! Don’t try to do it all, days on the couch doing nothing but looking after baby are very important 😀
Thank you Anthea <3 Patrick is such a cutie and I'm so smitten with him. I'm definitely taking things slower, treasuring my time with him 🙂
I'm so glad you're happy with your kitchen and I'd love to see photos - please do email them to me gina@stylecurator.com.au x
Yes, we moved in just before Christmas. We are loving it but I still have lots to plans for styling but at the same time I need to give the budget a bit of time to recuperate!! Our focus at the moment is window furnishings for the living areas, landscaping and also today I just brought home some samples for a rug to go in our living area (on the polished concrete) – choosing a rug is turning out to be harder than I thought!
Hi Anthea
Sorry for my late reply! I had baby Patrick just over a week ago and he’s been keeping me busy 🙂 It sounds like we’re in EXACTLY the same situation… no window furnishings or landscaping, so much on the shopping list and needing to let our bank balances return to the black, ha ha. I really struggled with the rug buying too… the rug I want to ultimately get is thousands (a chunky felt knit, very Scandi) so in the interim, I bought a woven black and grey rug from IKEA’s new collection which suits the space well http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/80314657/
So happy to hear you made it into your new house before Christmas, must have been the best pressie. Are you happy with how your kitchen turned out? I know that was a space you put a lot of thought into! xx
Your master bedroom is beautiful Gina. Thanks for sharing.
I love the raked ceiling and the light filled space. Love that chair. Love how you show how to mix more high end pieces with more budget friendly picks. Your storage / robe also looks perfect. Enjoy!
Oh thanks so much, Anthea! It’s fun to finally be styling our house that seemed to take foreverrrrr to plan and build! Have you moved into your new house or are there still some final bits to finish? From memory I think you were hoping to be in just before the new year. Would love to hear how it’s going x
Love everything about this, Gina!
Styled to perfection.
You’re the sweetest, thanks Ashlee! Just checked out the progress of your build, so exciting it looks like you’re close to doing all the internal finishes, YAY!
The soft colours, large windows, different sizes cushions and materials make it feel relaxing, open and exciting! xxx
So nice of you to say, thanks Julia xx
What a soothing room to sleep in, great job Gina! I love the joinery in the bedroom (why are so many people anti wardrobes?), it looks like you have tonnes of storage between that and the walk through robe! I’m a fan of your art choice again too. It must be amazing to wake up to 🙂
Thanks for your lovely comment Jane 🙂 Have you started looking for artwork for your new home or do you already have that sorted? I’m on the lookout for a piece for my living room and our guest bedroom if you have any suggestions! xx
I bought a large print by Ann Carrington that I’ve had my eye on since I saw it on an episode of 9bydesign – http://www.escapadeblog.com/2011/01/black-white-majestic.html and I have my eye on this for the guest bedroom http://www.theanimalprintshop.com/macaw/ but that’s it for now. I’d love a huge aboriginal painting to hang in the dining area and I’m wildly in love with Maria Gerth’s work, perhaps this one? https://www.flickr.com/photos/abgefahren2004/8453824640/in/album-72157632707296959/
I seem to spend ages browsing art but I find it really hard to choose things I can commit to putting on my wall! Once or twice I’ve found a ‘must have’ piece and then I look at the price tag and it’s $32,000 ;/ I also like the idea of collecting pieces over time from places we visit. I will be sure to let you know if I spot any potential options for your living/guest rooms 🙂
Oh wow, those art choices are so strong, love it when art is the feature in a room! I know what you mean about finding art you love that’s also affordable/accessible… thinking this is a good topic for a blog post where we can ask others to share their top places to shop for art too 🙂
I look forward to it 🙂
