Neat mini home office
Working from home, even if only for a few hours each week, is becoming the norm. If you don’t have space for a traditional home office, perhaps you could utilise a cupboard space like this? This pocket door system creates a neat multi-purpose work zone and the open shelves offer loads of additional storage. Just don’t forget to allow for an electrical socket or two, and a phone line if needed.
Tucked away home bar
Fancy a little nip at home? This stylish home bar by Zephyr & Stone lets you be a mixologist when entertaining or close the doors to conceal your at home bar. Practical, sleek and stylish, we cannot fault this fabulous pocket door design that neatly creates a home bar or hides it away.

Vertical LED strip
We love an unexpected design moment and this kitchen joinery with vertical strip lighting is the epitome of resolved design.
The varying shelf depths and heights suit a range of needs. Add in shallow and deep pull out drawers and you’ve got a compact yet versatile kitchen cupboard. Unlike the other pocket door designs in this round up, this one appears to have a bi-folding sliding door that tucks into a cavity pocket on the left.

Pocket doors for days
This next example shows you can never have too many pocket doors! If you love an ultra minimal look, you may like to conceal more than just your home office or coffee station behind pocket doors and consider creating a whole wall of these doors instead.
Wine storage meets appliance cupboard
How divine is this kitchen cabinetry designed by Edmonds + Lee Architects?! The sleek matte black interior creates a surprise wow feature and we love how it totally changes the look of this space depending on your mood. They’ve used it as a wine storage and appliance cupboard but it’s large enough to be a functional pantry in a small kitchen. Bring on cocktail hour!
Concealed coffee station
Coffee addicts will love this next kitchen joinery idea — create a dedicated coffee station! The perfect spot to store your coffee beans, favourite mug and all your other coffee essentials. Looks like this one is also a breakfast station with muesli… However you want to design it, we’re sure you’ll agree it’s a genius idea to have a stylish and well organised space like this to greet you first thing in the morning!
Additional bench space
Do you regularly host friends and would rather be joining the party than cleaning up your open plan kitchen? Yeah, us too! Introducing a pocket door to conceal just enough usable bench space.
Prep, cut, mix or do whatever it is you need to and then simply close the pocket doors to give the appearance of a tidy kitchen without missing a minute of the fun.
Can we also celebrate that fab use of LED strip lighting? It offers both functional and ambient lighting. When designing your cabinetry, don’t forget about your lighting requirements. Find more tips on how to light your kitchen here or electrical and lighting things to consider here.
Half-height pocket doors
For wider cupboards or those that will be in high use, a half height door may be a more functional solution. We’re totally inspired by this clever drawer organisation too!
Pocket doors with dreamy handles
The final example in this round up of pocket doors combines the best of everything. Strip lighting: check. Timber joinery: check. Functional power points: check.
Our fave design element has to be that pocket door hardware — those brushed brass pull handles are everything! Casually described by the designer Jess as an ‘appliances nook’, we’re sure you’ll agree it’s what kitchen dreams are made of! Find our list of the top places to buy door handles and hardware here.
