Minimalist styling
As much as we love decorative cushions, going overboard with beautiful cushions in a room filled with texture and colour can overwhelm that space. We often say less is more, and in the case of these bedrooms below, using two sets of pillows is perfect. You can add interest by using two complementary colours, just like in the bedroom below.
You can also use this as a base to introduce a feature cushion or two. Our tip, start slow and experiment.

Three feature cushions
One of the easiest ways to instantly build on your standard pillows is to start with three small feature cushions. Play around with different sizes and textures that fit with the rest of the room, or keep them simple and small to blend in with the other elements.

Euros in front with two feature cushions
Large Euro cushions are an excellent way to add interest while smaller feature cushions can help with layering! Below we have a simply look with two Euro and two feature cushions.
This way of styling cushions is gaining popularity in Australia, especially in homes channeling a luxe farmhouse or timeless aesthetic.

If you have a relatively neutral room like the one below, cushions are the perfect opportunity to play around with colours. Similarly to the last example, you can use standard pillows to prop up the Euro cushion, adding height. Once you have the right base, you can start to experiment, layering with other smaller cushions.

Now at this point you may be wondering how many pillows is too many pillows? Well, we would argue 9 is the limit. This allows for 2 x Euro cushions, 4 x standard cushions, and up to 3 x feature cushions, however this is just a guide!
Below we see a contemporary bedroom with 2 x standard cushions, 2 x Euro cushions and 5 x feature cushions. That makes 9 cushions! While we’d urge caution when going with this many cushions, we’ll let them get away it this time! It looks so good in the contemporary bedroom.

Bolster cushion and feature cushion
If you’re not that interested in playing around with cushions, this bed styling look from Steve Cordony is another excellent option. Using 4 standard pillows, a bolster and feature cushion, it’s a simple but elegant look sure to elevate any space!

Euro cushions behind pillows
Another classic cushion styling idea is to place Euro cushions behind your standard pillows. Again, it builds up to height, drawing the eyes up to the wall and giving the illusion of height.

Building on the last idea, layer your cushions even more with some extra feature cushions. It doesn’t have to be much — even one feature cushion can make your bed look fuller and comfier.
