Terrazzo is a style we never seem to tire of. Whether it be in tile or benchtop form. Or even seen in ceramics and other decor items. It’s beautiful and we LOVE it.
Terrazzo consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass to create a unique speckled effect. It also means that every piece is individual and unique. Which is a major yes from us. For plenty of inspiration on how to use it and where to make it a feature, you’ve come to the right place.
We’re seeing it used everywhere from kitchen bench tops, to furniture, and of course tiles.
The real version is made from a mix of chips, such as marble and glass chips, held together with a composite. It’s generally much thicker, around 20mm, to prevent it from cracking.
A faux version is a terrazzo pattern that’s applied onto a porcelain tile (or we’ve also seen it applied onto cement encaustic tiles). Technology has come a long way and many faux tiles are incredibly realistic.
If you’re not sure you want to commit to the real (or faux!) thing, we’re spying terrazzo in all kinds of home decor lately.
Think trays, cheese platters, coasters and cutlery. Indoor planters and vases. Even picnic rugs and lights.
We also have plenty of home tours which use this fabulous tile choice. These home tours are the perfect way for you get endless ideas and inspiration. And see how you can embrace the style and bring it into your own home.
