This home in North Rothbury in the New South Wales Hunter Region showcases classic Hamptons style in an acreage setting.
“From the moment you see the horizontal shadow lines of the home’s facade, you get a sense of breadth and expanse,” says Sandra.
“The soft grey exterior and corrugated iron roof are reminiscent of vintage Australian country homes. These blend with Hamptons hallmarks including Dutch gables and decorative truss details. We wanted this home to feel calming by using a simple palette.
The acreage design encapsulates the preference for homes that provide room to live large, without compromising on style.
Inside is bright and breezy, centred around an open plan living, dining, kitchen space. Bifold doors connect the interior living space to the outdoor area and bring the beauty of the outside, in.
“This home was designed with space, socialising and sanctuary in mind. The past year has had us re-evaluating what we need from our homes,” Sandra says.
“Many of us are now prioritising space for connection and retreat. Function also plays a big part in new home designs, with the need for home offices and the desire for a seamless indoor-outdoor transition.
“The central hub of this home is a total entertainers dream and allows that connectedness with friends and family. Being an open plan layout, the Australian Hamptons-look fits perfectly with the way we’re choosing to live these days.
“While we’re looking for space to socialise, there’s also the need for personal spaces. To create these zones, the layout incorporates a parents retreat on one side of the home. Then, at the opposite end of the house you’ll find the other 3 bedrooms and main bathroom.
“The addition of the home theatre room creates a cosy space for everyone to enjoy, without disturbing the other spaces.”
A key component in creating that classic Hamptons look is almost certainly James Hardie linea weatherboards.
“Weatherboards have a very familiar Australian look for that Hamptons style. One of the big design motifs of the home is the look of timber. Timber evokes the old-world charm of vintage country and Hamptons looks, but still remains clean and unfussy.”
